Explore how the Movement System Syndromes concept can be applied to post-surgical shoulder care. Join Sheila Banovetz, PT, MS, to learn how movement assessment and clinical reasoning can help guide rehabilitation and support recovery following shoulder surgery.
Webinar Description
Post-operative shoulder rehabilitation is commonly guided by standardized protocols that focu on protecting the surgical repair and restoring range of motion on a set timeline. Yet clinicians often see patients who meet their protocol milestones while still moving poorly, with altered scapular and humeral mechanics that can limit function and slow recovery.
This 90-minute clinical webinar brings the kinesiopathologic framework into the post-surgical setting. Rather than replacing established protocols, the session shows how movement system syndromes can complement them. It helps clinicians look beyond tissue-healing timelines to the suboptimal movement patterns that are present post-operative period.
Designed for physical therapists and rehabilitation professionals who treat post-operative shoulder patients, this session connects movement system syndromes principles to everyday clinical decisions, from early post-op care through return to function.
Learning Objectives
By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:
1. Understand the impact of surgical procedures and post-operative restrictions on shoulder movement and function.
2. Identify suboptimal movement patterns commonly observed in patients following shoulder surgery.
3. Develop treatment strategies based on Movement System Syndromes (MSS) principles rather than relying solely on standardized post-operative protocols.

Speaker Profile
Sheila Banovetz, PT, MS
Sheila has been a practicing physical therapist since 1985, first working at a rehabilitation/amputee clinic before transitioning to outpatient care. Before moving to Stevens Point in 1996, she taught physical therapy at the University of Iowa. She has assisted in the lab portion of Movement System Syndromes courses for many years.
While working with athletes and teaching at UW-Stevens Point, Sheila started experimenting with video analysis of sport-specific movements.
When Stevens Point Orthopedics acquired the Noraxon Movement Analysis system in 2017, Sheila developed the program, managed the system, and trained in motion-analysis technology and troubleshooting.
